HLA-A, B, and C are absent on these epithelial cells but are expressed in the papilloma stroma. However, non-classical MHC class I molecules, HLA-E and -G, are strongly expressed on papilloma epithelial cells and stroma. The image are from Israr et al. This is the strategy used by HPV6/11 infection to block NK activation and reduce HPV6/11 peptide presentation to T-cells. The authors also show that papilloma cells express increased amounts of PGE2 that directly inhibits NK cell function by signaling through the NK cell PGE2 receptors EP2 and EP4. The original image was digitally modified for the cover. Volume53, Issue4April 20232370041 RelatedInformation
