NETs were stained with MPO (green), citrullinated histone H3 (red) and DAPI (blue). Extrinsic NET injection partially reverses the protective effect of GSDMD deletion in neutrophils during acute respiratory distress syndrome. The image is taken from Xie et al., where the authors show that GSDMD cleavage in neutrophils is essential for the NET release and may be a new target for treating acute respiratory distress syndrome.
