Abstract

Spider silk is made of natural protein polymers and is known for its tradeoff between mutually exclusive strength and toughness. To simulate the spinning process of spiders in nature, the strong fibers are prepared by gene protein biotechnology and chemical synthesis. With their excellent properties, artificial spider silks can realize potential applications in biomedicine, smart wearables, artificial muscles and sensors, and aerospace. More details are discussed in the article by Liu et al. on page 3401—3418.image
