Abstract

AbstractThe immunohistochemical analysis of a frozen section of a thymus graft is taken from the article by Rossi et al. (pp. 2411–2418). The image shows cytokeratin expression in green and Aire expression (medullary epithelial cells) in red. The graft shown is generated from the EpCAM1+Mts24+ thymic epithelial subset obtained at embryonic day 16 (BALB/c mice). In their study, Rossi et al. show that, in contrast to previous reports, Mts24 is not a progenitor marker for embryonic epithelial cells capable of creating the required thymic microenvironment for T cell development.
