AbstractThis issue of physica status solidi (b) contains a Special Section with selected articles from the 4th International Workshop on Auxetics and Related Systems held in Malta on 24–26 September 2007. The section was guest‐edited by Joseph N. Grima and Krzysztof W. Wo‐jciechowski and covers recent developments in the field of auxetic materials including, amongst others, research on negative Poisson's ratio, negative thermal expansion and negative compressibility.
