Abstract

Widely applied automotive color pigments based on perylene bisimide have been utilized by many groups to create extended one-dimensional π stacks by self-assembly. In their Full Paper on page 13665 ff., F. Würthner et al. report on the application of sterically demanding groups to terminate self-assembly at the dimer stage. Only in highly nonpolar aliphatic solvents, a rather unusual growth into larger self-assembled structures is observed.
