Abstract

AbstractThe cover picture shows the dendritic growth in hexagonal symmetry of a columnar liquid‐crystalline triphenylenetetracarboxylic alkyl ester on a silicon wafer, seen by differential interference contrast microscopy in reflection. This ester, straightforwardly obtained by regioselective formylation of 2,6,10‐trimethyltriphenylene, is a member of the elusive class of electron‐deficient, room‐temperature columnar liquid crystals that are studied for use in organic optoelectronic devices.
