Abstract

In the Overview by Sangtani and Nag et al., the authors detail recent advances in multifunctional therapeutic nanoparticles (NPs) for drug delivery and imaging. The distinction is made between hard NPs such as quantum dots and gold NPs (where drug cargos are attached to the NP surface) and soft NPs such as liposomes and micelles (which allow both core loading and surface attachment). The image shows a cut away view of a mammalian cell interfaced with soft (foreground left) and hard (foreground right) NPs during the delivery of surface‐appended (green spheres) and core‐loaded (red rods) cargos.
