Abstract

Glass has played a key role in the development of telescopes. From large refractors, like the one used at Yerkes Observatory, to mirror‐based telescopes with glass substrates, the evolution of optical telescope designs has always relied on glass. The cover figure illustrates the growth in size of the layouts, their relative scale, as well as the common segmentation of modern instruments.
