The discussion on the future automotive technology has already been ongoing for many years and seems to intensify recently. Over the years, there had been many hypes regarding possible technologies and fuels, enabling sustainable developments in the transport sector. Although the technological developments in the transport sector have been diverging in different directions, the major goals are the same – to decrease energy consumption and the corresponding local pollution and GHG emission, as well as to increase energy supply security. To be successful and acceptable, all alternative mobility solutions should be comparable to conventional means of transportation regarding cost and performance (e.g., driving range, comfort, charging time, etc.) or provide some significant benefits for car users and the environment.
