Abstract

The reactivity of a biomimetic iron (IV)-oxo complex (the sun) towards a number of methylated cytosine and uracil substrates (the orbiting planets) was investigated. The reaction rates (corresponding to the orbital periods) are in very good agreement with the calculated bond dissociation energies. 5mC, T and 5miC possess a different reactivity than the solely N-methylated compounds 1mC and 1mU or the dimethylated compounds 1,5dimC and 1,5dimU.
