Abstract

In competitive extraction experiments, receptors functionalized with 2,2’-bipyridine (bpy) and o-phenylene-bis(urea) (pbu) binding sites that are interconnected with methylene linker exhibit very high affinity towards CuSO4 in the presence of other divalent first-row transition metal sulfates. Synergistic recognition of divalent d-block metal ions and tetrahedral oxoanions by these receptors induces self-assembly of triple-stranded helicates.
