Cover Feature: Original Suzuki–Miyaura Coupling Using Nitro Derivatives for the Synthesis of Perylenediimide‐Based Multimers (Eur. J. Org. Chem. 47/2019)

Abstract

The Cover Feature shows 1-nitro-perylen-ediimide (1-nitroPDI), an attractive starting material for the preparation of “satellite-shaped” PDI-based multimers. The nitro derivative is involved as an original electrophile into efficient palladium-catalyzed Suzuki–Miyaura couplings with polyboronic ester linkers affording multimers of various geometries. The protocol improves the synthetic access to the reported class of tridimensional PDI based multimers, which are of particular interest as Non-Fullerene Acceptors in organic photovoltaics.
