Abstract

The spin cross-over behavior of iron(II) complexes with an S6 coordination sphere (zwitterionic sulfur donor bidentate ligand) was observed for the first time. A large decrease in the volume of the formula unit (78.1 Å3) may be responsible for the large activation barrier, resulting in a slow phase transition from the high-spin state to the low-spin state.
