Abstract

Indole-3-glycerol phosphate synthase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MtIGPS) is a fascinating indole-forming enzyme in the bacterial tryptophan biosynthetic pathway. MtIGPS appears to have important untapped potential as both a novel target for new antibacterial agents and a scaffold for protein engineering. This cover feature art highlights the structure, unique chemistry, and role of MtIGPS in tryptophan biosynthesis. More information can be found in the Minireview by N. M. Goodey et al.
