Abstract

Essential structural features of the high-pressure phase Ge32Co9−x: The atomic arrangement is built from a uniquely distorted cubic primitive arrangement of Ge atoms. Ordered occupation of neighboring cubes by Co atoms forms heteroatomic three-core clusters Co3Ge16. These units condense to form two interpenetrating frameworks interlinked by covalent Ge−Ge bonds. The homopolar germanium bonding creates characteristic six-membered germanium rings. More information can be found in the Research Article by U. Schwarz and co-workers (DOI: 10.1002/chem.202203955).
