Abstract

Detecting the presence of uranyl peroxide nanoclusters (UPCs) in solution is difficult, so this study used tandem mass spectrometry with collision-induced dissociation to probe bridging ions surrounding the uranyl ion and to determine fragmentation fingerprints of UPCs. The image shows an abstract artistic representation of the nanocluster U24Pp12, [(UO2)24(O2)24(P2O7)12]48–, and its movement through a quadrupole mass analyzer with subsequent fragmentation.
