Abstract
We construct covariant vertex operators for the first massive level in the Neveu-Schwarz and Ramond sector of the superstring. For the latter we construct them for ghost charges − 1 2 and − 3 2 . This provides an illustrative example of the picture changing mechanism. The supersymmetry transformations of this massive multiplet are obtained. For picture changing, as for supersymmetry, we also devote attention to the behaviour of spurious states.
