Abstract

The scope of the exclusions to patentability for computer-related inventions has been a topic of great debate over the past few years, both in the UK and at the European Patent Office. The Court of Appeal recently reconsidered the issue in relation to an invention for accessing data in a computer system, holding that it made a technical contribution and that it was therefore patentable.
