Abstract

Forecasts of precipitation and air temperature are necessary in order to increase the lead-time of flood warnings and forecasts in a given river basin. The paper presents a coupling procedure for transferring data between the numerical forecast meso-scale meteorological model HRM and the forecast hydrological model CONSUL, which is a rainfall-runoff model. Checking of the results of the coupling procedure between the weather- flood forecast models was performed using the forecasted and recorded hydrometeorological data for some past events in the Crisul Alb and Crisul Negru river basins. This analysis served to assess the use of the coupling procedure in operational flood forecasting and warning.
