Abstract

We have proposed that the ionic plasmon be accepted as the boson that mediates the Cooper pairing in the s-wave condensate in p-type cuprates. We show here that the coupling strength λ ≈ 10 and the isotope effect parameter α ≈ 0 for the superconducting CuO 2 layer can be explained by plausibility arguments in a straightforward manner by considering the diffuse scattering of the ionic plasmons by the native defects.
