Abstract
Recent experiments have shown that the normal Tonks-Dattner eigenmodes are drastically altered when a high power microwave signal impinges on a plasma column. This alteration allows the coupling of the high frequency signal to a spectrum of low frequency signals. A critical threshold behavior for low frequency excitation is found for both the incident signal and the average number density.
