Abstract

Pumped hydro energy storage (PHES) is currently one of the most mature energy storage system technologies. In addition to considering the positive effects of a pumped storage power station (PSPS), its negative ecological effects cannot be ignored. Therefore, it is imperative to study the coupling relationship between the PSPS and the eco-environment. This study systematically analyzed the coupling coordination mechanism of the PSPS and eco-environment. Second, the study established a cloud model fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method and coupling relationship model. Four coupling relationship scenarios were then established. Finally, an econometric model was used to study the internal influencing factors of the coupling coordination degree (CCD). The results showed that the coupling degree (CD) between the eco-environment system and the PSPS increased after construction, and the CCD decreased. From the perspective of influencing factors, the four factors of construction cost, installed capacity, daily pumping volume, and average daily power consumption rate had significant negative effects on coupling coordination. Environmental protection measures for the PSPS must be taken in response to these factors. This study proposes eco-environment restoration suggestions for lowering the eco-environmental impact of the construction and operation of the PSPS.
