Abstract

The studied structures are Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) prepared MgO/Co(45A)/Cr(0–40A)/Ag(0–40A)/Co(45A)/Ag(20A) multilayers. Their structural properties were investigated using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The magnetic coupling was studied using the Longitudinal Magneto-Optical Kerr effect (MOKE) at room temperature (RT). For a Cr/Ag thickness of 10–25 A antiferromagnetic coupling (AFC) of the magnetic layers was found. After patterning the sample, transport measurements at low temperatures for the different thicknesses were performed. A transition from anisotropic (AMR) to spin valve magnetoresistance (SVMR) was observed.
