Abstract

A formulation has been developed that can form the basis for elastic or inelastic analysis of thin-walled beams with local and member buckling interaction. A finite element model was developed from this formation for elastic wide-flange beam which has 11 degrees-of-freedom at each node. The model yields good results for flange local buckling. The results verify that for wide-flange sections in the elastic range, the interactive effect is normally small, and local and member buckling are initiated as relatively detached phenomenon.
