Abstract
It is shown that the interaction of Langmuir waves and finite-amplitude collision-dominated ion-acoustic waves in a collisional plasma is governed by the coupling of a damped nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation and a driven Korteweg--de Vries--Burger equation. The system differs considerably from the Zakharov and related systems for a collisionless plasma.
