Abstract

ABSTRACT It is proper to speak about Special Education in Switzerland and not about the Swiss Special Education System. In fact, there is no one Swiss school, nor any federal department of education nor minister of education. This small country has no fewer than 26 education systems, some of which differ widely. The education system is therefore characterized by difference and diversity, arising from varied socio‐economic, cultural and political conditions, cantonal sovereignty and educational federalism. However, because of the influence of the Federal Disability Insurance, special education in Switzerland has some common characteristics.
