Abstract

Over the last few decades, society has undergone a rapid transformation in information and communications technology, which has completely transformed the way in which data is created, transmitted, stored, and exchanged. The field of information and communications technology is vast and constantly evolving, but two significant concepts that have emerged from it are data communications and networking. Data communications involve the utilization of a transmission medium, be it wired or wireless, to facilitate the transfer of data between two or more devices. In today's world, many applications rely on data, including personal information, and therefore require the use of data communications. As a result, the improved efficiency and speed of data communication has led to a parallel rise in communication surveillance. When it comes to data transmission, surveillance plays an essential role. However, protecting data during transmission is a topic that requires continuous exploration. This paper begins by discussing the evolution of information and communications technology in today's society. It then examines surveillance techniques for data transmission, followed by counter-surveillance techniques that prevent potential hackers from accessing private data. During the counter-surveillance discussion, the paper proposes a novel technique involving the redirection of traffic from the transmitting side over multiple links to the receiving side, leading to data aggregation. To test the proposed system, the paper presents an implementation and evaluation of a proof-of-concept using the powerful packet manipulation tool, Scapy, along with raw socket programming in the Python programming language. The system utilizes a stable Wi-Fi connection and a mobile hotspot as the two multimedia links, with segments sent in on alternating links, resulting in secure and successful data transmission from the client side to the server side.
