Abstract

There is a paucity of research examining role of social learning constructs predicting deviant behaviours in public sector employees. The prime purpose of this paper was to examine this relationship in context of Indian public universities. Data were collected through self-report questionnaires filled by 333 public university employees from India. SEM was then administered to analyse this data. The study established the presence of employee deviance (in mild form) within the Indian public universities. It was also found that social learning constructs (except differential reinforcement) have a significant effect on counterproductive work behaviours. Very few studies have checked the relationship between employee deviance and social learning constructs (all four at one point of time) and none of the studies validated this relationship in Indian public sector.
