Abstract

Chinese women is not a homogeneous group but with diversities in education, social participation and needs for social service. To meet their dissimilar needs, there is an urgent need to develop different strategies in service design and delivery. Taking rural women into consideration in the study of women's issues therefore becomes crucial both for research and social service delivery in China. In this paper, the author will focus on the rural women, specifically rural battered women, exploring their values and life situations from the perspective of self-concept, and discussing the working principles for service provision. It is hoped that this discussion for working with rural women can contribute to the development of social work with women in China, as service for rural women in China is just budding.
