Abstract
Counseling psychology at Ohio State originated in an undergraduate “How to Study” course. By 1938 Francis P. Robinson had arranged for seniors in teacher education to provide supervised remedial counseling to students in the course. This “practicum” was formalized as a graduate course in 1940 and led to the establishment of a graduate program in student personnel work (renamed counseling psychology in 1951). The program was made possible by departmental faculty and by staff in the Occupational Opportunities Service, the Dean of Women's Office, and other student personnel offices. The persons, programs, and events that helped to establish and maintain the program constitute this brief account.
