Abstract

Three councils in the north of England have appointed individuals with no training in public health to lead their new public health directorates, a move the Faculty of Public Health says will undermine the recruitment and retention of public health doctors. Lancashire County Council has appointed an individual with a background in social care to head up its new combined directorate of public health and adult services. Telford and Wrekin Council and Bolton Council have also appointed people without public health training to take charge of joint public health and social services departments.
