Abstract

Computer models must be based on an existing plant's operations. Otherwise, key variables such as:•Relative volatility•Tray efficiencies•Exchanger fouling factorshave to be guessed at, without a firm basis.Tray efficiency, for example, is largely a function of tray deck levelness and overflow weir levelness, which are largely unknown to the designer. Thus, a computer model is at best, just an educated guess or approximation of reality.
