Abstract

AIM: To study the chemical constituents on the stems and barks of Daphne retusa. METHODS: Compounds were separated by column chromatography with silica gel, Sephadex LH-20 and RP18 silica gel. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of physiochemical and spectral analyses. RESULTS: Eight compounds were isolated from D. retusa, and their structures were identified as 7-hydroxycoumarin (1), 7-methoxy-8-hydroxycoumarin (2), 7-hydroxy-8-methoxycoumarin (3), daphnoretin-7-O-β-D-glucoside (4), umbeliferone -7-O-β-D-glucoside (5), edgeworside A and C (6 and 7), and [8,8'-bi-2H-1-benzopyran]-2, 2'-dione, 7'-(α-D-glucopyranosyloxy)-7-hydroxyl-3-[(2-oxo-2H-1-benzopyran-7-yl)oxy] (8). CONCLUSION: Compounds 1~8 have been isolated from this plant for the first time.
