Abstract

Physicochemical and Phytochemical evaluation of different black tea brandsPradeep Kumar Sharma, Mohammad Ali, Dinesh Kumar Yadav

Highlights

  • Cancer is a major public health problem and is the second leading cause of death worldwide

  • The results indicated that compounds N3, Synthesis of 7-Acetoxy-4-methoxycoumarin (S4), S5 and S6 have IC50 values lower than that of 5- fluorouracil against MCF-7 cell line and all compounds have higher IC50 values than that of 5-fluorouracil against AMN3 and HeLa cell lines

  • The aim of this work is to carry out phytochemical screening tests on four different extracts obtained from Creston apple seeds, to isolate any coumarins found in the extracts and chemically modifying N3 to afford new semisynthetic derivatives, and to screen the cytotoxic activity of the isolated coumarins and their semisynthetic derivatives on three cancer cell lines, which are: MCF-7, AMN3 and HeLa using MTT assay

Summary

Introduction

Cancer is a major public health problem and is the second leading cause of death worldwide. Natural products and their derivatives played an influential role in drug discovery and development programs because of their enormous biological properties (Crane and Gademann, 2016) and their effectiveness in treating several human diseases, including cancer (Newman and Cragg, 2016). Coumarin (1,2-benzopyrone, 2H-1-benzopyran-2-one, or phenylpropanoids, Fig. 2) and its derivatives are a family of oxygen-containing fused heterocycles and they are widely distributed throughout nature (Swayam et al, 2012). Coumarins are found in over 30 different families as Umbelliferae, Rutaceae and Clusiaceae (Stefanachi et al, 2018) and they are distributed in various parts of these plants especially seeds, roots and leaves (Rosselli et al, 2009)
