Abstract

It is shown that the Coulomb interaction and self-energies of nuclear charge distributions with diffuse surfaces can be calculated analytically in a closed form for several important configurations including two spherical nuclei and a spherical and a deformed nucleus with nonoverlapping equivalent sharp surfaces. Charge distributions were described by a folding product of a spherical or deformed sharp surface distribution and a short-range function. The usefulness of this class of distributions for the description of nuclear charge densities, moments, and Coulomb energies is discussed in detail.
