Abstract
WHAT MAY BE the final US military medical team to deploy to Somalia is expected to arrive in Mogadishu later this month. Its members could compile the last chapter of what to date has been unique 13 months in the history of military medicine, edged with frustration. But the experience perhaps is offering US military medicine some insights into what may lie ahead in the new world order. The latest US Army medical team to deploy to Somalia will come from Fort Devens, which is 56 km (35 miles) northwest of Boston, Mass. Present plans call for the team to remain in Somalia until sometime this spring. In an October 7,1993, televised speech to the nation, President Clinton promised to pull all US troops out of Somalia no later than March 31.
