Abstract

One form of intellectual property that tries to offer legal protection for the origin of a good, commodity, animal, etc. is a geographical indication. In the waterways of Riau Province, there is a species of catfish called Kuansing’s Pangasius kunyit. It is identified as a geographical indication potential of the Kuantan Singingi Regency based on information collected by the Indonesian Communal Intellectual Property National Data Centre. This study aims to investigate the possibility of Kuansing’s Pangasius kunyit being protected as a geographical indication and the efforts made by the local government to support the advantages of Kuansing‘s Pangasius kunyit through geographical indications. This investigation relates to the law. A conceptual methodology is used. The local government was required to support the program in order for Kuansing’s Pangsius kunyit to be certified as a geographical indication.
