Abstract

DUSTY atmospheres sometimes become more of a problem as broiler houses become more enclosed, and temperature, relative humidity and ventilation are controlled.Grub et al. (1965) reported that dust produced in poultry houses originated from feathers and skin debris, feed and litter, and that dust production from broilers is affected by age, temperature, type and condition of litter, activity of the chicks and moisture in the air and litter. Roller (1961) reported on use of different filter materials as well as the litter itself to filter the dust from the air in the poultry house. Griffin (1959) encountered problems with air conditioning equipment caused by dust in the poultry house air. Littman (1965) stated that air cleaning equipment is commercially available to remove most of the dust from poultry house air, but initial and operating costs are high and equipment space requirements are great.Problems with poultry house dust related…
