Abstract

AbstractThe feasibility of enhancing cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) growth or quality with an s‐triazine or substituted uracil compound was investigated. Repeated foliar application of 2‐chloro‐4,6‐bis(ethylamino)‐s‐triazine (simazine) at 0.06 to 0.48 kg/ha or soil incorporation of 0.22 to 0.90 kg/ha of simazine did not increase protein or oil production in seed of cotton when compared to untreated controls. Application of simazine had no effect on total yield or quality of lint. Terbacil (3‐terf‐butyl‐5‐chloro‐6‐methyluracil) was highly phytotoxic when applied foliarly to cotton at 0.006 kg/ha.
