Abstract

Initially conceived for the correction of scoliosis, Cotrel-Dubousset instrumentation (C-D-I) is now used for various spine pathologies. After the experience of Harrington and Luque instrumentation, we introduced C-D-I in 1988 to our hospital with expectation of its rigid stability and wide applicability. On the other hand we had been anxious about the burden of the operative procedure which would increase operating time, increase blood loss, and cause more complications. The purpose of this report is to assess the utility of C-D-I in various pathologies, except scoliosis, from the viewpoint of operating stress and complication.
