Abstract

This article addresses the major issues surrounding corporate compliance as they relate to hospice and home health care providers. The article discusses the following major topics: why the entire hospice and home care industry is talking about compliance; when, how, and why compliance evolved; the future of compliance for hospice and home care providers; the benefits of a compliance program; the seven elements of an effective compliance program; the risk areas hospice and home care providers should be concerned about; what a corporate integrity agreement is; sample Office of the Inspector General investigations and convictions; what steps need to be taken to develop a compliance program; cost-effective approaches to compliance programs; and shared compliance programs.
