Abstract
This book grew out of a course for nonscience majors at the University of Massachusetts and is Professor Harrison's response to the discovery that no single book available to him provided sufficient material for the discussions and course work involved. It provides a thorough and comprehensive view of the universe and its contents through the eyes of a cosmologist, and each chapter is accompanied by a good guide to further reading and thought-provoking puzzles to reflect on.
