In this chapter we review early Universe cosmology and the motivation behind the theory of inflation, including the classic fine-tuning puzzles known as the horizon, flatness and monopole problems. We will show how inflation purports to solve these puzzles before reviewing the current debate on whether inflation introduces new fine tuning issues of its own.
