Abstract

The causative agent of chalky disease, a bacterial septicemia of the cicada Okanagana rimosa, was taxonomically identified. The morphology, physiology, and habitat of the pathogen suggest the establishment of a new species within the genus Corynebacterium. The new species is named Corynebacterium okanaganae after the generic name of the host, Okanagana rimosa. The type strain is LBG B 4405.
