Abstract

Performing a peripheral iridectomy is a safe and effective means of atraumatically removing cortex at the 12 o'clock position. It prevents pupillary block as well as adhesions between the iris and capsule. Also, it serves to position the anterior capsular flap and the superior edge of the intraocular lens.
