Abstract

This chapter builds upon the analysis of the causes of corruption in the MENA region and the literature review. The analysis of the fifteen Arab countries uses the structured focused comparison method to facilitate systematic comparison of their causes of corruption. The chapter looks at the causes of corruption across the three sub-regions, addresses each of the ten hypotheses across the MENA region countries, groups the hypotheses to analyze how they might relate to each other as causes, catalysts, or triggers of corruption, and then highlights exclusive causes of corruption in some of the countries in the region.
