Abstract

The calcium content in the binary as-cast Mg-xCa alloy will affect the microstructure and mechanical properties of the alloy. In this study, five magnesium alloys with different calcium content were prepared by casting process. Then, the five kinds of alloy components were tested and the microstructure was observed, and the change trend of the hardness of the as-cast alloy was obtained with the increase of Ca content. The corrosion resistance of the as-cast magnesium alloy was tested by electrochemical experiments and corrosion immersion experiments. It is found that the addition of an appropriate amount of Ca can increase the hardness of the magnesium alloy and improve the corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloy. It is concluded that the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy can be controlled by controlling the calcium content.
