Abstract

The chromate conversion coating (CCC) is pretreated on the surface of aluminum current collector to effectively suppress aluminum corrosion in the lithium bis[(trifluoromethyl)sulfonyl] imide (LiTFSI)-based electrolytes. The harsh electrochemical tests show that the corrosion current density of CCC-Al is only about 1% of that of pristine aluminum. In NMC333||Li cells, the capacity retention is over 90% for the cell with CCC-Al current collector, while it is only 12% for the cell with pristine Al. This CCC-Al current collector enables imide salts to be used in LIBs, which paves a way to explore new battery chemistry for the next-generation high-performance battery.
