Abstract

In fixed-roof carbon steel tanks used to store crudes and products, three corrosion zones can be distinguished: the roof and the upper rings of the tank wall, the bottom and lower ring of the tank shell, and the walls of the tank that are in contact with crude or product. Among the active methods for tank protection, the most widely used is the use of sacrificial anodes, including the PMR-20 and MGA-64 types. The authors suggest combining tank protection methods, using anticorrosion coatings on the inner surfaces and sacrificial anode protection of the bottom. Metallizing with aluminum and zinc coatings is an extremely promising method for internal protection of tanks.
